Gower College Swansea is one of the largest colleges in Wales with a strong reputation for high quality teaching and learning. We have six campuses across the city with over 4, full time learners and 10, part time learners. We currently have a turnover of over £50 million making us a major employer in the region with approximately 1, staff.

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Gower College Swansea for three dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our teams on a part-time, fixed-term basis, supporting students in their academic journey.

There are two positions available. Please state in your Personal Statement which vacancy/vacancies you are interested in.

Interview date: Sept

Vacancy A - Maternity Cover

1. Part-time (25 - 30 hours per week across 4 days)
2. Term-time (36 weeks per annum)
3. Fixed term until 30th January
4. Based on 25 hours per week, the salary would be £13, - £13, pa pro rata
5. Tycoch Campus

Vacancy B

6. Part-time (25 - 30 hours per week across 5 days)
7. Term-time (36 weeks per annum)
8. Fixed term until 31st August
9. Based on 27.5 hours per week, the salary would be £14, pa pro rata
10. Jubilee Court Campus (Fforestfach)

These roles are based within busy departments, working with learners who thrive on practical, hands-on learning in a lively and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will bring resilience, adaptability and strong relationship-building skills, using positive strategies to keep learners engaged and support them in achieving their potential.

Key Responsibilities:

11. To provide one-to-one or small group support under lecturer direction as appropriate in the classroom setting.
12. To assist with the development of learners’ literacy and numeracy skills.
13. To assist with the pastoral care needs of learners and to direct learners to other college support mechanisms as necessary.
14. To provide learners with help in understanding oral and written instruction.
15. To assist with the co-ordination of learners’ work, record keeping and progress through liaison with lecturing and support staff at all levels within the College.

About you:

16. Maths and English GCSEs: A - C Grade or equivalent
17. Experience of working with young people in a similar job role
18. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of students with additional learning needs/learning difficulties
19. Confident, resilient, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
