This Maintenance Technician role suits a General Builder or Multi-Trade Operative with a background in brickwork, drainage, roofing, external works or similar looking for a permanent, in-house position with steady hours and consistent workload.
This Maintenance Technician position is based on a large university estate, carrying out a wide range of building repairs across live campus buildings, roads, pathways, drainage systems and building fabric.
The Role
Road, pathway and paving repairs Brickwork, blockwork and small concrete repairs Drainage repairs, unblocking and minor excavation work Roofing, guttering, lead flashing and chimney repairs Door repairs, ironmongery, shelving, signage and general carpentry Basic plumbing repairs to sanitary ware, toilets, sinks and pipework Installing wooden or concrete ramps and handrails General building fabric repairs across occupied campus buildings Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance Logging work, risk assessments and updates via CAFM system
Hours, Overtime & Call-Out 36 hours per week, Monday-Friday Paid overtime available Call-out rota approx. 1 weekend in every 4-5 £2,700 annual call-out rota payment Standby: £38.20 weekday / £70.20 weekend or bank holiday Attendance: approx. £15 per hour (minimum 2 hours per call-out)
Salary Enhancements £600 per year uplifts available for additional skills: Lead roofing / flashing Sarnafil roofing systems Plaster patching / making good
The Person General Builder, Multi-Trade Operative or Building Fabric Technician Strong background in brickwork, drainage, roofing or external works NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or time-served equivalent Able to work independently and manage varied repair work Professional, reliable and customer-facing Full UK driving licence
