What will your day look like?
To work with and support children and young people and their families and/or carers to help them to make changes and improve outcomes. In particular, the purpose of this role is to help families to better understand and meet the needs of their children and build enough safety into their lives so that children can live at home within families where it is safe to do so.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking talented and skilled individuals with a background in Children’s Services or similar childcare setting to work alongside our Social Workers. Assisting in promoting resilience in families to reduce neglect and emotional harm, focusing on parenting work which without intervention may enter into Court Proceedings and continued Child Protection planning.
This Family Support Worker post sits within the Children in Care Team within Children’s Services and the role is essential in delivering a range of support to families to prevent escalation of need/risk.
You will possess the ability to communicate with children and use direct play to understand their world. You will be able to undertake parenting work and support Social Workers with parenting assessments.
You should have a sound knowledge of child development and a good understanding of the impact of trauma on the child’s world and able to offer practical and emotional strategies to overcome this. It is important that you are a good communicator and team player and are able to work with parents/carers to build on strengths and support them to be the best parent/carer they can be.
