Non-Executive Director / Professional Advisor for Technical Oversight Committee
ANEMOI — Greater London, England, United Kingdom
At Anemoi, we’re on a journey to shake up the maritime industry with cutting‑edge Rotor Sail technology. From our headquarters in the UK and production base in China, we’re developing and delivering advanced, automated wind‑assisted propulsion systems that help shipowners and operators reduce fuel consumption and emissions, propelling the shipping industry toward a more sustainable, decarbonised future.
Our goal is ambitious yet simple: save 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ per day by installing 500 Rotor Sails by 2030. Picture fleets of ships sailing the world’s oceans with our Rotor Sail technology, harnessing renewable wind power to get the job done cleaner and more efficiently. We’re making that happen, one ship at a time.
We take ground‑breaking science and real‑world engineering and turn it into products that work operationally at sea. Our diverse and collaborative teams work side by side, and around the globe, driven by a passion for sustainability and a relentless pursuit of technical excellence.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced professional advisor or non‑executive director with a strong background in tanker and gas ship design, operation, or classification society experience to join our Technical Oversight Committee (“TOC”).
The TOC plays a vital role in overseeing our product range strategy, ensuring that designs are fit for purpose and longevity, while guaranteeing safety, commercial competitiveness, and the highest standards of quality. The committee is ultimately responsible for minimizing the risk of equipment failure and ensuring all parts meet the necessary specifications.
This is a strategic oversight role, suited to an individual with deep technical expertise in the maritime sector and the ability to provide constructive challenge, independent judgment, and sound advice.
This is a rare opportunity to challenge and influence, requiring someone to attend at least 6 meetings per year, dedicating 3–4 hours of their time each meeting, with occasional ad‑hoc items as needed.
Purpose of the Technical Oversight Committee
The TOC provides governance and independent review over key technical and design decisions, ensuring that risks are properly assessed and managed. The committee’s remit includes:
* Reviewing current/live designs where solutions are new or substantially updated
* Reviewing product and system integration designs
* Reviewing requirements for functional and proof testing, and test results
* Considering known technical issues in production, testing/commissioning, or in service
* Reviewing internal processes and working arrangements with external parties to ensure effective decision‑making and robust risk controls
* Reviewing third‑party interfaces and associated risks
* The TOC advises executive leaders, who retain ultimate accountability for decisions, taking into account technical and wider business considerations.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice, constructive challenge, and scrutiny on technical risks and design decisions
* Support robust processes, ensuring safety, quality, and cost are optimized
* Be commercially savvy and aware of the current market trends regarding WAPS
* Help identify and address gaps or weaknesses in technical oversight
* Act as an independent voice, ensuring balanced and well‑evidenced decision‑making
* Contribute to written recommendations and advice following TOC meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive experience in the tanker and/or gas shipping sector, with strong knowledge of vessel design, systems, operations, and maintenance
* Significant technical expertise in marine engineering, shipbuilding, manufacturing, or quality assurance
* Proven experience in senior technical leadership, design governance, and risk/assurance roles
* Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to balance safety, quality, and cost considerations
* Board/C‑suite or committee‑level experience essential
* The ability to challenge constructively and work collaboratively with executives and fellow committee members.
We will consider
* Consultants
* Executive Directors who have the capacity to commit to the role.
