This is a special school for children aged 5-11 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This is more than a school role; it is an opportunity to help transform practice across a whole community.
Responsibilities
* As a Learning and Support Assistant (LASA), support teaching and learning in classrooms, helping both teachers and pupils.
* Work alongside the teacher to support whole-class learning.
* Support individual pupils with behaviour management and social development (training provided).
* Bring your own strengths and interests into the classroom to enrich the learning experience (e.g., subject passion, creative skills).
* Be part of a class team where ideas and input are valued. Maintain positivity, patience and flexibility; a sense of humour and the ability to stay calm when faced with challenging behaviour are essential.
What we’re looking for
* GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
* Experience working with children is an advantage—e.g., in education, youth work, or another setting.
* An interest in supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs.
* Adaptable, resilient, and eager to grow with the team.
What we offer
* Full training in SEMH practice, de-escalation, and behaviour management.
* Opportunities for professional growth and outreach-specific CPD.
* A supportive, welcoming team that shares ideas and celebrates success.
* The chance to shape and grow an expanding outreach service across Stevenage and potentially further afield.
* Real impact: making a difference to children, schools and families every day.
