About the Role
We are looking for an Investigator (consultant). The ideal candidate will contribute to the success of our Investigations practice by bringing expertise, experience, innovative ideas, and a positive, collaborative attitude. Strong investigative skills, effective communication, and creative thinking are essential.
The successful candidate will be based at our clients' sites and will:
1. Conduct investigations with professionalism, integrity, and quality.
2. Lead investigations into misconduct, fraud, unethical behavior, harassment, discrimination, safeguarding, and control failings, ensuring compliance with legal standards and best practices.
3. Prepare detailed investigation reports with findings, recommendations, and preventive measures, and present these to senior management and stakeholders.
4. Understand workplace and societal norms and their impact on organizations and perceptions.
5. Manage multiple investigations simultaneously, contributing to the growth and reputation of Howlett Brown through sharing insights and best practices.
6. Build and maintain strong client relationships and promote the company's brand and expertise.
7. Represent the business at conferences and events, sharing thought leadership.
8. Demonstrate a growth and innovative mindset, with a solution-focused approach to business challenges.
9. Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills to convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
10. Stay informed on workplace culture, trends, and practices, and be a thought leader in investigations.
11. Possess strong problem-solving, resilience, and logical thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate and simplify complex issues, exercising sound judgment.
12. Be emotionally intelligent with a strategic, commercially aware approach.
13. Communicate effectively at all levels within the organization and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Core Skills & Standards
The successful candidate will have:
1. Strong analytical skills and experience in research and assessment methodologies.
2. Excellent communication and facilitation skills, capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.
3. Attention to detail, with concise drafting and review abilities, and decision-making skills.
4. A legal qualification or postgraduate degree in a relevant field is preferred but not required.
5. Exceptional customer service orientation with a solutions-focused attitude.
6. Experience leading complex investigations and utilizing data insights for risk mitigation.
7. Previous experience in a professional firm or multinational corporation.
8. Good understanding of business integrity principles, compliance frameworks, and regulations including privacy and employment law.
Additionally, candidates should:
1. Show respect, dignity, and professionalism at all times.
2. Adhere to staff policies and procedures.
3. Possess professional certifications in investigations or related fields (desirable but not essential).
4. Have excellent presentation skills and proficiency in MS Office.
The role requires a minimum of 4 years’ experience in areas such as:
1. Microaggressions
2. Misogyny and misogynoir
3. Whistleblowing
4. Regulatory investigations
5. Non-financial and financial misconduct
6. Disciplinary hearings and appeals

Title: Investigator (Consultant)
Location: Hybrid—remote and client offices, with possible visits to Howlett Brown offices.
Duration: Flexible, typically 3-6 months
