The Role We are looking for a commercially minded, persuasive Credit Controller who enjoys building relationships, influencing outcomes, and taking ownership of cash collection. This role is ideal for someone with a sales-style mindset confident on the phone, comfortable negotiating payment, and able to balance firmness with professionalism. You will play a critical role in protecting cash flow while maintaining strong, long-term client relationships. Key Responsibilities Take full ownership of the credit control cycle, driving timely and consistent customer payments Build strong, professional relationships with clients, using influence and rapport to secure payment commitments Proactively chase overdue invoices through confident phone-based and written communication Negotiate payment plans where appropriate, balancing commercial outcomes with customer retention Challenge non-payment constructively and handle objections with confidence and credibility Monitor customer accounts, assess risk, and manage credit limits and terms Investigate and resolve invoice queries or disputes quickly to remove barriers to payment Work closely with sales and internal teams to ensure alignment on customer accounts Produce regular reports on debtor position, aged debt, and cash-flow risk Implement strategies to reduce aged debt and improve overall payment performance Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in credit control, accounts receivable, collections, or a similar role Strong, persuasive and negotiation skills- confident influencing payment outcomes Excellent telephone manner with the ability to handle challenging conversations professionally Commercially minded, resilient, and results-driven Able to balance relationship-building with firm credit control High attention to detail with strong organisational skills Confident using financial systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel) Comfortable working in a fast-paced, performance-focused environment What We Offer Competitive salary of £35,000 £40,000 Clear development and progression opportunities High-performance, entrepreneurial culture Opportunity to work with a nationally recognised brand Tailored training and development aligned with career goals Modern, high-spec office environment Free on-site parking Sponsored qualifications and development opportunities Company pension scheme Opportunity to be part of a business reshaping the construction sector While experience in credit control or accounts receivable is desirable, we are far more interested in the right personality.
