Overview
Wolverhampton City Council has new and exciting opportunities within our Occupational Therapy Service. We’re expanding and looking for experienced, motivated practitioners who want to lead paediatric practice, develop others, and make a tangible impact for children and families across our community.
About the Opportunity
As a Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you’ll take the lead on complex functional assessments, specialist aids, adaptations and manual handling interventions, and service improvement initiatives for children and young people. You’ll work in family homes, schools, and our welcoming Albert Road clinic, supporting safe, timely outcomes that maximise independence and participation.
You’ll collaborate across our integrated pathways—to deliver high‑quality, child‑centred OT, aligned to best practice and statutory frameworks.
What you’ll do
* Lead complex paediatric assessments and clinical decision‑making; prescribe equipment and recommend adaptations that remove barriers to daily living and learning.
* Provide advanced manual handling expertise; coach colleagues and ensure safe practice across home and educational settings.
* Support our duty/triage function—liaising with families, prioritising referrals, and guiding proportionate responses.
* Supervise, mentor and develop OTs, OTAs and Trusted Assessors, promoting consistent, strengths‑based practice.
* Work closely with schools, health professionals and housing teams to progress timely equipment and adaptation solutions.
What you’ll bring
* HCPC registration and substantial post‑qualification experience in paediatric occupational therapy adaptations.
* Proven ability to manage complex risk, apply clinical reasoning, and achieve outcomes that matter to children and families.
* A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for innovation and continuous improvement.
Why Wolverhampton?
* Be part of a growing and innovative team that values creativity, compassion and evidence‑informed practice.
* Supportive leadership, structured supervision and CPD; opportunities to shape services across our new integrated pathways.
Working Arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for ‘touch down’ space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flex base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
