West London NHS Trust provides a full range of mental health, community and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialistservices that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.


Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated full time Specialty Doctor, to join the Women’s directorate of the West London Forensic services, based at The Orchard, St Bernard’s Hospital Ealing.

The salary range for this post is £59,175 - £95,400 per annum plus London Zone Weighting.

Candidates are invited to discuss this appointment informally and in confidence with Dr Mansi Sood, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Clinical Lead.

You will be joining a well- established multi- disciplinary clinical team providing care across two wards. The wards are commissioned to provide care for women with mental disorders who require treatment in conditions of medium security. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of a consultant forensic psychiatrist to provide effective, responsive, caring and safe treatment for the women.

Your role would be, together with the Responsible clinician providing front-line mental health assessment and care including attending ward rounds, CPA meetings, community meetings and reflective practice, as well as opportunity to provide written an oral evidence for courts and tribunals.

Person specification

* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice including: • good clinical care • maintaining good medical practice • good relationships and communication with patients • good working relationships with colleagues • good teaching and training • professional behaviour and probity delivery of good acute clinical care
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment


Qualifications

* MBCHB or equivalent medical qualification
* Shall have completed at least 4 years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies


Fitness to Practise

* Applicant’s knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely


Language Skills

* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, which could be demonstrated by one of the following: •applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English •applicants have scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent equal to those required for recruitment to MMC specialty training programmes.


Clinical Skills

* Acute care safe: up-to-date basic life support training. Out of hours experience relevant to the post
* Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to write comprehensive clear reports for multiagency professional networks
* Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
* Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
* Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.


Personal Skills

* Team working: demonstrated experience working in a team, values the input of other professionals in the team.
* Managing others & team involvement: capacity to work co-operatively with others and demonstrate leadership when appropriate. Capacity to work effectively in multi-professional teams.
* Coping with pressure: capacity to operate under pressure. Demonstrates initiative and resilience to cope with setbacks & adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
* Problem solving & decision making: capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems & make decisions. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
* Organisation & planning: capacity to organise oneself and prioritise own work. Demonstrates punctuality, preparation and self-discipline. Understands importance of information technology.
