We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist, interested to join a team of enthusiastic and committed professionals in delivering the Prime Minister's Challenge on Dementia (2015) and the NHS Long Term Plan for Older Adults Mental Health services (2019) in the London Borough of Hounslow.

West London NHS Trust, Cognitive Impairment and Dementia services deliver specialist care to patients in the locality who are experiencing cognitive problems & dementia that impacts upon their abilities to carry out activities of daily living.

This post is a community-based Senior Occupational Therapist. They will work under the supervision of a B7 Specialist Occupational Therapist and they will be responsible in supervising OT apprentice and/ or OT students. They will also be part of the wider OPMHS Occupational therapy team across the Tri - boroughs.


Main duties of the job

This is a B6 post is based in the vibrant London Borough of Hounslow.

The post holder will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team and the wider occupational therapy team within the older people's mental health service line. Patients who are referred to this service are those with cognitive impairment who require dementia screening and diagnosis.

The Occupational Therapy service provides pre and post-diagnostic support, including cognitive rehabilitation, environmental modifications, advice on dementia design, equipment provision, and advice to carers/family members. Occupational therapy services conduct comprehensive assessments using standardised and non-standardised assessments to provide holistic interventions. They also collaborate with activity coordinators and psychology colleagues to facilitate group and individual therapeutic activities, either in the clinic or through electronic platforms.

The older people's mental health service (OPMHS) was previously known as cognitive impairment and dementia services (CIDS). We still offer the same services with the addition of provision for older people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

OPMHS OT team is a large and diverse team, which includes team members who have trained overseas. We have a robust induction and training programme to integrate new team members in the Trust and the service line. Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* BSc (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification
* HCPC Registration
* Attendance at specialist short courses relevant to the post e.g Dementia Care, Older People's Mental health


Experience

* Post qualified experience within Older people's services
* Working within NHS Older People's services
* Application of core OT skills and OT process
* Multidisciplinary team working
* Relevant post-qualified OT experience in Mental Health
* Experience of supervising /co-supervising students Involvement in research and clinical audit
* Experience of supervision of students and staff
* Post qualified experience as an OT (or equivalent role) in a health or social care or 3rd sector setting


Knowledge and Skills

* Understanding of Clinical and environmental risk

£42,939 to £50,697 a yearper annum inclusive of 15% HCAS
