About the role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing tax team at an exciting stage of its growth journey. Due to significant client wins, we are looking to expand our team with an Innovations Relief Tax Associate Director, seeking an environment to accelerate knowledge, skills, and development within a creative, entrepreneurial, and supportive team, working with fantastic clients.
Join our active, growing, specialist Innovation Reliefs tax team at RSM within the Central Region. The role involves working directly with IT specialists across various businesses at the forefront of technology, within a global professional services firm.
We are seeking a computer science specialist to enhance our existing team in claiming R&D incentives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of computer science and software development, strong communication skills for client interactions, and clear writing skills for describing projects.
Responsibilities:
* Managing R&D engagements, including financial management, billing, staffing, risk procedures, deliverables, and client relationships.
* Meeting with clients and potential clients to explain our services.
* Defining scope of work and budgets, proposing fee quotes.
* Developing claim methodologies and managing R&D tax relief claim preparations for HMRC submission.
* Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to identify qualifying R&D activities and expenditures.
* Writing and editing technical descriptions of client projects for HMRC reports.
* Preparing supporting documentation based on UK BIS guidelines and CIRD manual.
* Building internal and external networks within the firm and with intermediary companies.
* Identifying and leading business development opportunities, pitching for new and existing clients.
* Liaising with HMRC regarding R&D claims and responding to enquiries.
* Reviewing work of junior staff for accuracy and providing feedback.
* Maintaining tax quality standards and updating the team on project progress.
* Communicating with firm leadership and clients effectively.
* Adapting approaches to meet client needs while maintaining professionalism.
* Leveraging firm’s services and publications to add value and identify cross-selling opportunities.
About the ideal candidate
The candidate should possess in-depth knowledge of computer science and software development, with familiarity with R&D.
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science or similar.
* Experience in the software/IT industry.
* Knowledge of UK R&D tax incentives and experience with R&D tax relief claims.
* Excellent technical writing skills and ability to respond to HMRC inquiries.
