Salary: Competitive hourly rate
Contract: Part-time / Full time, Flexible hours

Looking for flexible tutoring work where you can genuinely change a young person’s path?

We’re looking for passionate tutors to support PEX students across the Middlesbrough area. These are young people who may have faced barriers in education and need the right person to help them reconnect with learning, rebuild confidence, and take small steps forward.

This role is ideal for educators, tutors, youth workers, or mentors who know that sometimes the most important part of teaching is building trust first.

Sessions take place face-to-face in local libraries, community hubs, or occasionally in the student’s home, so being able to travel across Middlesbrough is important.

What you’ll be doing

Planning and delivering engaging tuition sessions across core subjects

Supporting students who may present challenging behaviours

Building strong relationships that help students feel safe and ready to learn

Breaking down barriers and helping pupils rediscover confidence in education

Adapting sessions to suit each student’s needs and learning pace

We’re looking for someone who

Has tuition experience or experience delivering one-to-one learning

Has worked with students with challenging behaviour

Has a background in youth work, mentoring, or education

Can confidently plan and structure tuition sessions

Holds a teaching qualification (desirable but not essential)

Can travel across Middlesbrough, driving and own vehicle preferred

Thrive Training

Experience with the Thrive Approach is highly valued when working with students who need emotional and behavioural support.

Not Thrive trained yet? No problem. Through Protocol Education you’ll have free access to Thrive training, helping you build the tools and confidence to support students in a trauma-informed, relationship-focused way.

Why this role works well

Flexible hours that fit around other commitments

Meaningful one-to-one work where you see real progress

The chance to support young people who truly need it

Varied environments and rewarding experiences

Protocol Education benefits

Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies

FREE access to our CPD Academy

Personalised support from a dedicated consultant

Opportunities across mainstream, SEND, and alternative provision

Streamlined registration and local placements

If you’re someone who believes every student deserves another chance to succeed, we’d love to hear from you.
