Job overview

We are looking for a self-motivated, hardworking individual to join our dynamic team of Adult neurosurgical specialist nurses! The practice involves mainly caring for patients (both in- and out-patients) with vascular problems (e.g. AVMs, aneurysms, SAH, cavernomas), along with some brain tumour patients predominantly on a benign pathway.

This role requires you to work through assessment, planning and implementing care and support for a group of patients, relatives and acute services – requiring excellent communication and listening skills. You will provide robust clinical advice and learn how to undertake simple procedures, such as shunt checking.

Working with healthcare professionals in a range of different settings to meet the clinical needs of the patients is pivotal, whereby you are helping to prevent readmissions and improve patient pathway from referral through to discharge and beyond into the community setting. As such, you will undertake nurse led clinics and nurse-led discharges in what is a very proactive, patient facing role.

This role involves a degree of Trust level teaching. You may also be asked to help with collaborative research projects and partake in the planning and implementation of neurovascular MDT meetings.

You must possess a current NMC registration and hold a recognised teaching/mentorship and Neuro course qualification.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures

Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students

Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care

Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area
