Job Description
Do you enjoy writing and editing clear, accessible and engaging information? If you are able to critically review information, think about wider implications and provide clear and well-reasoned advice, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
As an Operational Policy Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that Adult Social Care & Health (ASCH) staff have access to clear, up-to-date and meaningful policy documents that support their day-to-day roles. You will work closely with Senior Policy Officers, operational teams and the wider Policy Unit to develop, write and maintain documents that underpin safe, legally compliant and consistent practice. You will play an important role in undertaking research, analysing implications and coordinating feedback from operational teams. This will ensure there is sufficient insight, structure and accurate information needed to lead policy development and make well-informed decisions.
The role also includes maintaining ASCH’s policy library, updating related intranet content and ensuring documents meet accessibility and corporate standards. Much like adult social care itself, the role is broad, fast paced and helps the department meet its statutory duties and make a meaningful difference to practitioners and the people they support.
We are looking for someone with:
* Strong writing and editing skills.
* Clear, confident and concise written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to analyse information, think critically and consider wider implications across the department
* Knowledge of plain English and accessibility standards.
To apply for this role, please follow the ‘Apply Now’ button above and upload your CV and a supporting statement. We will be using your supporting statement to shortlist so please be sure to address how you meet all the essential criteria in the person specification, drawing on any relevant work/life experience, education, or personal interests. Your supporting statement should be no longer than 750 words.
Interviews will take place in person at County Hall, Lewes BN7 1UE either Monday 13th April or Monday 20th April. If you are unavailable these weeks, please let us know and we may be able to schedule an alternative date to interview you. Candidates who meet certain criteria are given priority when we shortlist. See our priority status page for details.
Your work will directly support ASCH staff and improve outcomes for residents across East Sussex. If you’re looking for a role with purpose, impact and excellent opportunities to develop your skills, we would love to hear from you.
We offer a diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment. More information can be found on our benefits page.
We would consider recruiting to this post on a part-time basis. For an informal discussion about this opportunity please contact ASCHPolicy@eastsussex.gov.uk to request a Microsoft Teams call or phone call.
For putting my skills to good use, I choose East Sussex!
