CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a permanent child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) Consultant Psychiatrist. The role is based at Chalkhill Hospital, Lewes Road, Haywards Heath (RH16 4NQ) and will be part of the new crisis and intensive home treatment service.
Job Summary
This position involves designing and developing an innovative care model for young people aged 12-18, prioritising safe, effective and caring service delivery in the community as an alternative to admission. You will lead clinically within a multidisciplinary team, contribute to leadership at trust level, and help continually develop the acute care pathway.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership and clinical decision‑making within the crisis and home treatment team.
* Develop and implement service pathways for acute CAMHS care, collaborating with psychiatrists, occupational therapists, nurses, psychologists, systemic family therapists and social workers.
* Contribute to the CAMHS Psychiatry on‑call rota.
* Liaise with other CAMHS consultants and specialist doctors across the trust to promote peer networking and best practice.
* Support service development and improvement initiatives and contribute to research and evaluation projects.
* Provide teaching and training to undergraduate and postgraduate staff.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCPsych or equivalent.
* CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent.
* Fully registered with the GMC and a licence to practise.
* Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within three months.
* Valid UK driving licence or evidence of an alternative.
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social model.
* Strong written and oral communication in English.
* Experience in managing clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Desirable
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Experience in service development/improvement, research or audit leading to service change.
* Evidence of teaching, research, audit or CPD achievements.
Recruitment and Retention Payment
£45,000 over three years: £15,000 upon successful recruitment, with £10,000 payable at 12, 24 and 36 months.
Contract
Permanent, full‑time. Flexible working available.
Location
Chalkhill Hospital (Lewes Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 4NQ) – alternative SPFT sites available.
