About the Role
Cell Press is launching a new journal, Matter & Light, to better serve researchers working at the materials/light interface (including photovoltaics, photocatalysis, photonics, luminescent and related materials). The journal will be part of a growing portfolio under our flagship materials science journal Matter. We are seeking a Deputy Editor to help drive the launch of the journal and catalyse its rapid development. Working closely with the Matter family Editor in Chief, the new Deputy Editor will have the unique opportunity to shape a prominent and vibrant journal, that also fits cohesively into the Matter and Cell Press journal portfolio. The Deputy Editor will be tasked to create a high-impact journal grounded in a strong understanding of the needs of the international research community that we serve.
Responsibilities
* Defining the aims and scope and strategic priorities of the journal.
* Coordinating editorial evaluation of submissions to ensure the quality and value of the journal.
* Developing a broad appeal, impactful, topical, and cohesive journal.
* Drawing on an impressive network of leading researchers to attract influential article submissions.
* Traveling extensively to attend relevant conferences and visit leading research institutes.
* Playing an important role supporting Matter, the Editor in Chief, and editorial colleagues in the wider research ecosystem at Cell Press
* Developing and fostering partnerships with other editorial teams at Cell Press, members of the production, marketing, press and advertising teams. Contributing to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press.
Requirements
* Have proven materials research expertise relevant to materials / light interactions, and a broad current interest across materials-related research.
* Have a deep network of international researchers within the scope of the journal, paired with a proven ability to engage with and influence.
* Able to think conceptually and critically about a wide range of scientific issues.
* Have proven organizational, project management, leadership, and teamwork skills.
* Display excellent written and oral communication skills.
