About us

A key part of the Home Office, Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. It also aims to disrupt the organised criminal groups that exploit the vulnerable for their personal gain. Join us, and you’ll be performing a role where you’ll make a difference every day.

About the role

This is a great opportunity to support society by identifying criminal behaviour and enforcing UK legislation. Every day, you’ll be investigating a wide range of immigration criminality, which will see you involved in the full cycle, from arresting suspected offenders, obtaining search warrants and conducting interviews through to collecting evidence, attending court and using the Proceeds of Crime Act to strip criminal gangs of their illicit profits.

Whatever the task, you’ll carry it out with the highest level of professionalism and be comfortable making decisions in challenging situations.

As part of a supportive team, you’ll be provided with the specialist training to succeed in this highly rewarding role.

About you

Perhaps you’re Police Detective or Police Constable or even a graduate looking to get into this sector. Whatever your background, you’ll need PIP2 accreditation (Professionalising Investigations Programme Level 2). If you don’t have this qualification already, we’ll help you achieve it with our full support.

To join us, you’ll need to be calm and professional, whatever the situation. A clear communicator, you’ll be assertive enough to take control (within legislation, policy and procedure). At the same time, you’ll be thoughtful ,with a talent for teamwork. Working alongside other professionals, you’ll draw on your understanding and resilience to handle challenging moments.

Above all, you must be adaptable and flexible with a natural curiosity for the crucial frontline work that Immigration Enforcement carries out. Motivated to make a difference to society, you’ll keep ethics and honesty at the heart of your work.

Please note that this role requires a full valid UK driving licence.

Training & Development

Like all Home Office employees you can expect learning and development that’s tailored to your role. It means we’ll help you achieve PIP2 (Professionalising Investigations Programme Level 2) if you don’t have it already. The qualification will bring you up to the same level as a police detective constable but in a Criminal Investigator role. Once you’ve completed the PIP2, you will be able to exercise full powers to investigate immigration crime. If you find the training challenging, rest assured that there will always be a colleague around for advice and support. Our diverse, inclusive team attracts people from different backgrounds with different identities, perspectives and lived experiences.

Rewards

We offer an excellent benefits package that includes a Civil Service Pension with employer contribution rates of at least 28.97%, in-year reward scheme for one-off or sustained exceptional personal or team achievements, 25 days’ annual leave on appointment, rising with service to 30 days, eight days of public holidays, plus one additional privilege day. This role currently attracts Annualised Hours Allowance (AHA) of a minimum of 30% of salary (depending on location), which equates to an additional £9,300 per annum based on salary minimum.

Closing date: 11.55pm on Wednesday 23 July 2025.
