ABOUT THE CLIENT
Our client is a global technology and consulting organisation delivering large-scale digital transformation programmes across the UK Public Sector. They are seeking an experienced C Engineer to support a major HMRC modernisation programme focused on reducing legacy technology risk and migrating critical applications away from legacy Ingres databases.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile programme supporting one of the UK's most important government departments, helping to modernise and stabilise business-critical systems ahead of strategic technology transformation milestones.
THE C SOFTWARE ENGINEER ROLE
As a C Engineer, you will play a key role in the remediation, stabilisation, and modernisation of applications participating in HMRC's "Ingres-only" transformation pathway. You will analyse existing applications, identify technical debt, remediate vulnerabilities, and support the migration of data and services away from legacy Ingres databases towards modern relational database platforms such as Oracle and SQL Server. Working closely with architects, DBAs, testers, and delivery leads, you will design and implement low-risk technical solutions that improve supportability, security, and performance while preserving business functionality. The role will involve application analysis, dependency mapping, database migration support, defect resolution, test execution, documentation production, and knowledge transfer activities. You will also contribute to Agile delivery practices, mentor junior engineers, and support engineering best practices across the programme.
