Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of service objectives for Family Services comprising of Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

To provide focus and support with business objectives - performance, governance, workforce, service improvement and finance.

To seek improvement, where opportunities exist, within services and across the care group. To act on behalf of the patient in enabling the Trust to be efficient and a provider of high quality care.

Please be aware that this role is not CURRENTLY eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants should be aware of the requirement to independently obtain ongoing right to work in the UK beyond the expiry of any temporary or time-limited permissions. Evidence of this will need to be shared with the HR Team to ensure our records remain up to date.


Main duties of the job

* To provide Business Manager provision in the Family Services Care Group, primarily managing Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Key roles and responsibilities are set out below.
* To act as line manager for the medical secretaries (team leaders) and Children’s Centre receptionists, including the supervision, recruitment, appraisals, performance issues and initial stages of grievance and disciplinary procedures.
* To be responsible for assisting with the co-ordination of all aspects of medical staffing across the care group on a day-to-day basis.
* To assist in the production and distribution (in consultation with clinical staff) of junior doctor rotas and timetables, to enable the smooth running of the care group.
* To ensure that staff resources are distributed according to need and priority, particularly when organising cover for sickness/absence.
* To establish systems and processes to report and monitor performance for key targets (local and national) and operational objectives.

Education, Qualification & Training


Essential criteria

* 4 O'Levels/GCSE's including Maths & English


Desirable criteria

* Educated to NVQ Level 4 or equivalent level of knowledge.
* Diploma in Health Service Management desirable


Knowledge & Experience


Essential criteria

* Significant & recent experience of working at a similar level within a healthcare setting, in a hands-on operational role.
* Experience of supervision/line management
* Experience of working in a project team to deliver positive change
* Experience of managing performance targets
* Significant and considerable administration experience


Desirable criteria

* Significant experience of working with Microsoft Excel and Word
* Recent experience of working with the Trust’s PAS system


Skills & Abilities


Essential criteria

* The ability to communicate effectively with all members of a multi-disciplinary team
* Ability to work on your own initiative and make informed decisions
* A high level of accuracy and attention to detail coupled with the ability to work to deadlines
* Excellent organisation skills and the ability to plan ahead
* An understanding of the need for patient & staff confidentiality


Desirable criteria

* Fast and accurate keyboard skills and the ability to use e-mail
* Recent experience of working with the Trust’s PAS system.
