Job description
As a Senior Support Worker at Break, you will play a pivotal role in the daily care, support, and well-being of young people living in our children’s residential home in Long Stratton. You will work directly with the young residents, taking an active, hands-on approach to their care and development, while also leading the staff team during shifts. This includes acting as the senior shift worker and ensuring the smooth running of daily activities and routines. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young people and a strong ability to provide leadership within a team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Building strong, trusting relationships with young people to promote emotional stability and well-being.
* Providing day-to-day support tailored to individual needs, including personal care, education, and therapeutic activities.
* Working with young people to develop independence, life skills, and resilience through guidance and positive reinforcement.
* Delegating tasks, providing clear instructions to team members, and ensuring effective communication between shifts.
* Maintaining a safe, supportive, and structured environment for young people, adhering to all safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Monitoring and managing risk assessments, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
* Overseeing the accurate recording and reporting of incidents, care plans, and daily records in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues, other professionals, and external agencies to support the young people’s development.
* Supporting young people through periods of emotional distress or challenging behaviour, using de-escalation techniques and providing a calming influence.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Previous experience in a similar role within a children’s residential or social care setting.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and experience handling sensitive situations.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* A passion for working with young people and a commitment to their care and development.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
* Enhanced DBS dated within the last 12 months. On the update service? You could be fast tracked through our recruitment process today.
* Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS if you do not currently hold one.
