The role would include a mixture of office and site-based tasks to give you the well-rounded experience required to see schemes from start to finish in Highways Maintenance. Training course: Construction site supervisor (level 4)
Hours Monday - Friday from 8.00am to 5.00pm. 40 hours a week.
Starting Tuesday 1 September 2026.
Duration: 2 years
Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.
What you'll do at work
* Assist in the control of sites to ensure work is conducted safely, effectively and to the correct quality and standards
* Assist and contribute to planning and setting up of work sites via different formats of communication
* Assist in the monitoring and control of contract works and understand how to implement corrective action when required
* Assist in preparation of material requirements, prepare orders, monitor supply and maintain records
The apprentice will be joining a team delivering a huge variety of planned projects on the contract, ranging from carriageway and footway resurfacing schemes to major structure and highway improvement schemes.
The role would include a mixture of office and site‑based tasks to give you the well‑rounded experience required to see schemes from conception into construction and completion. This would involve exposure to Health, Safety & Environment management, Planning and Co‑ordination and Commercial management.

Training
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
* Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety‑conscious behaviours.
* Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
* Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
* Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
* Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
* Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
* Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.

Requirements
GCSE in:
* English (grade 5 or above)
* Maths (grade 4 or above)

BTEC in:
* Engineering (grade Merit or above)
