Lead Data Engineer - Edinburgh - 3 days per week in the office
I’m working with a long standing private investment business who are quietly doing some really good work in their data space.
They’re now looking for a Lead Data Engineer, but this isn’t one of those roles where you inherit a title and then spend your time navigating hierarchy. This is very much about being the person people trust when it comes to data engineering decisions.
The focus is on building a proper multi source data model that the business can actually rely on for reporting and insight. You’ll be setting direction around architecture, quality, and engineering standards, and helping shape how data is used across the organisation rather than just delivering pipelines in isolation. It’s hands on, but with real influence. You’ll guide the technical approach, support other engineers, and have a genuine voice in the wider data strategy.
The environment is Microsoft Azure based, with modern data architecture patterns and platforms like Microsoft Fabric in play. Strong SQL and Python are important, as is experience building and orchestrating pipelines and understanding how data models are consumed through tools like Power BI.
What I like about this one is the mindset. They care more about expertise than job titles. You’re trusted to take responsibility, supported by capable people around you, and encouraged to grow in the direction that suits you. The expectation is that this role evolves into a Principal position and then into a Head of role as the team grows.
It’s a permanent role paying around £90k, based in Edinburgh 3 days in the office. The benefits are genuinely strong too, including a 20% and 30 days holiday.
If this sounds like something you’d like to explore, or you know someone who’d be a great fit, drop me a message.
