Occupational Therapist Neurosurgery

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to work within Neurosurgery specialty.
Main duties of the job
The role is suitable for a current Band 6 occupational therapist looking to broaden their experience in neurosurgery or a Band 5 occupational therapist ready to take on a senior post in this specialty. Applicants should have recent UK experience and have completed foundation B5 rotations in Neurosurgery, Neurology or Stroke at B5 or B6 level.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conduct effective and timely assessments in a rapid‑paced neurosurgical environment.
* Deliver evidence‑based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well‑being and optimise independent functioning across all life areas.
* Enable patients in positive risk‑taking and provide personalised care.
* Assess capacity, perform cognitive assessments, and conduct manual, functional and occupational mobility assessments.
* Apply knowledge of care pathways and local protocols.
* Support operational management, contribute to service planning, development and teaching.
* Act as a role model for the MDT, motivating the team to provide high‑quality care.
* Build and maintain networks with other agencies to identify and address immediate and ongoing patient needs.
Person Specification
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
* Ability to analyse, select and apply appropriate interventions from a range of modalities.
* Strong working clinical knowledge of the neurosurgical speciality.
* Knowledge of health and safety issues, including risk management.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Works well within a team.
* Demonstrates understanding of confidentiality.
* Participates in standard setting and research projects.
* Evidence of ongoing clinical and professional development.
* Ability to prioritise care in a changing environment and with fluctuating patient demands.
* Facilitates learning of others.
* Awareness of performance management processes.
* Working knowledge of equipment and wheelchair provision.
Education / Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
* Demonstrated clinical experience in acute and care settings, including stroke services.
* Ability to practise as an autonomous practitioner.
