Job Title: Warehouse Operative
Reporting To: Team Leader – Stores & Despatch
Location: Sherburn in Elmet
Department: Stores & Despatch
Hours of Work: 40 per week Mon-Friday
Purpose of the Role
To ensure the effective receipt, storage, handling, and despatch of goods within the warehouse and factory stores. The Warehouse Operative plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining accurate stock control, safe handling of products, and timely preparation of customer orders.
Key Responsibilities
Goods In & Storage
· Receive, check, and book in deliveries of raw materials, components, and consumables.
· Accurately record deliveries against purchase orders and flag discrepancies.
· Safely move, store, and organise stock in designated warehouse and factory areas.
Stock Control
· Maintain accurate stock levels using the company's stock management systems.
· Conduct regular stock counts and cycle checks.
· Report stock shortages, damages, or quality issues promptly.
Order Picking & Despatch
· Accurately pick, pack, and prepare customer orders for despatch.
· Ensure goods are labelled, palletised, and loaded in line with customer requirements.
· Liaise with transport providers and assist in loading vehicles.
Health & Safety
· Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other equipment safely (training provided if required).
· Comply with company Health & Safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
· Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.
Teamwork & Communication
· Work closely with the Team Leader, Production, and Quality teams to support smooth operations.
· Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding stock, orders, and priorities.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse.
Person Specification
Essential
· Previous experience in a warehouse, stores, or logistics role.
· Ability to follow processes and pay close attention to detail.
· Good level of physical fitness (role involves manual handling).
· Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
· Basic IT skills for stock entry and order processing.
Desirable
· Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance and/or Reach).
· Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
· Knowledge of despatch, logistics, or export documentation.
