The Role
NHS Lanarkshire Cancer Nursing Service are seeking applications from highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic registered nurses to join their Upper GI Cancer Nurse Specialist Team. Experienced registered nurses who are committed to providing quality evidence based cancer care with a personal commitment to lifelong learning aligned to the NES NMAHP framework and ACCEND are welcome to apply.
The role of the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist is highly specialised. These positions provide cancer service across NHS Lanarkshire, which comprises three district general hospitals offering comprehensive person-centered cancer care. Key responsibilities include coordinating the complex care needs of people with upper gastrointestinal cancer across all stages of the patient’s pathway—from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up or end of life care. Strong organisational, time management and excellent communication skills are required.
Location and organisation
NHS Lanarkshire serves a population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in both North and South Lanarkshire. The organisation includes Acute Services (three main hospital sites), Corporate & Property & Support Services, and Health & Social Care Partnerships delivering integrated primary and social care services.
What we’ll need you to bring
* Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC/HCPC Registration
* Educated to Degree Level
* Postgraduate qualification at a minimum Level 10 (Hons) or working towards
* Expertise in the speciality of practice with breadth of knowledge to lead safety and service delivery
* Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality
* Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures
* Leadership skills to manage day-to-day service delivery
* Continued professional development in the area of speciality
* Excellent team-working, leadership, motivation, and initiative
* Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills
* Effective time management
Desirable additional qualifications
* Advanced Communication Skills Training
* Communication or Counselling qualification/course
* Lifelong learning and personal development plan
* Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification (V300)
* Advanced Clinical Assessment & Decision Making Qualification
* Accredited SACT course/module
* Experience in relevant speciality, nurse-led clinics, case management, MDT work
* Audit and research experience
* Knowledge of national, regional and local cancer strategies/priorities
* Multi-professional teaching experience
Contract type
We have various posts available within the department:
* 37 hour - Permanent Band 6 Cancer Nurse Specialist post
* 30 hour - Permanent Band 6 Cancer Nurse Specialist post
* 37 hour - 12 month Secondment/Fixed Term Cancer Nurse Specialist post
Please note if a part-time post is accepted then the salary will be pro-rata. This is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post has temporary funding and an existing NHS Lanarkshire staff member wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee must have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying.
Location
This role will be based in Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Nursing within University Hospital Wishaw.
