What You'll Be Doing:
* Conducting radiological safety assessments to ensure the highest safety standards.
* Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, keeping our systems safe and reliable.
* Developing and deploying radiation detection systems that are at the forefront of technology.
* Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system for our submarines.
* Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations to support our projects.
* Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire fleet.
* Developing ALARP justifications to support critical design decisions.
Your Skills and Experience:
* A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
* Demonstrable knowledge/experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
* Experience with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
* Familiarity with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

The Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Join a dynamic team responsible for designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK's nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across multiple submarine programs at various engineering lifecycle stages, from designing new shields to conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning. We also conduct radiological safety studies and develop novel radiation detectors, enhancing our capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates.
