Community Phlebotomist (Quest)

We are seeking enthusiastic staff with excellent communication skills who are highly motivated and adaptable in a fast pace and ever changing environment. The Quest Service phlebotomist is an exciting and rewarding challenge supported by an expert team with training and development opportunities.
The role is part‑time in Calderdale, with working hours 8am – 12:30pm, Monday to Friday, and requires ability to travel to various destinations within work hours.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
* Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
* Work unsupervised undertaking domiciliary visits; a full driving licence and vehicle access with business insurance required.
* Undertake surveys and audits when requested.
* Attend to staff and patient queries, referring appropriately.
* Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations.
* Use a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet and work‑related e‑mails.
* Cover other staff when required.
* Perform any duties as defined by the manager/Team leader in charge.
Professional Duties
* Comply with all mandatory training and have awareness of all policies and procedures relating to the Trust and division.
Managerial Duties
* No managerial duties required in this post.
* Ensure stock is rotated to minimise waste.
Managing Self
* Participate in regular supervision.
* Attend all mandatory training.
* Participate in Trust annual appraisal, developing a personal development plan with the line manager.
* Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.
* Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy.

Main Tasks
* Awareness of public user involvement in services.
* Carry equipment; lifting, bending and standing for long periods.
* Walk long distances within hospital, GP surgeries and during domiciliary visits.
* Prepare work areas.
* Explain procedures to patients.
* Use persuasive skills and reassurance for needle phobic patients.
* Assist patients to dress and undress if necessary.
* Collect blood samples into appropriate containers.
* Record details of blood samples and, where appropriate, obtain and record medical information from patients.
* Collect blood samples from patients with varying disabilities, behavioural problems, or who faint/vomit; deal with distressed patients sensitively.
* Report any concerns regarding a patient’s condition and/or safeguarding.
* Assist team leader and supervisor.
* Support new and less experienced colleagues with training.
* Be open and honest; learn from mistakes.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* Educated to GCSE level A*‑D or equivalent in Mathematics & English.
* Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare‑related subject.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting and understanding of equality, diversity and compassionate care.
* Experience of complying with legislation, policies and procedures.
* Experience of working in an ever‑changing environment.
* Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
* Geographical knowledge of the Calderdale area.

* Effective communication skills when dealing with difficult/vulnerable people.
