Overview
Legal Services is looking to recruit a Political Assistant to provide effective support to the Councils Labour Group.
In summary, the specific tasks and responsibilities of the post include researching, evaluating and analysing specific areas of interest to the Group; providing the Group with information in the form of reports, briefs and statistics; briefing the Group on policy matters and general issues affecting local government and the Council; keeping abreast of developments within local government and the Council; providing an administrative and support service to the Group, its activities and to its meetings and developing systems and procedures for the Group.
Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible to the Group Leader and Secretary of the Political Group. This is a Politically Restricted post. Agile working is available.
Responsibilities also include supporting the Groups activities and meetings, researching and analysing local government issues, and developing systems and procedures to support the Group.
Qualifications
* An up-to-date knowledge of the administration of local government.
* Member decision-making processes.
* An awareness of the political environment and an ability to relate to, and work with, Elected Members.
* Sound and effective IT skills.
* An understanding of Council policies with respect to rules of procedure and local conventions/protocols.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* The ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
