Overview
The Biosystems Operator contributes to the smooth day-to-day running of the Biosystems plant, focusing on the receipt, emptying and cleaning of reusable sharps containers and preparing them for dispatch and reuse, along with Biosystems hardware, ensuring prompt dispatch and keeping all equipment safe to prevent damage.
Key Responsibilities
* Run the Biosystems Wash line and Autoclave Plant in line with company KPI targets.
* Ensure waste containers, Transport and Roll Cages are emptied, cleaned thoroughly, and stored in a suitable empty area with high quality and stock control maintained at all times.
* Control the receipt and dispatch of Waste Containers, Transporter and Roll Cages; ensure vehicles are loaded/unloaded safely in accordance with internal policies and safe systems of work.
* Maintain operational records and data for the role (e.g., shift reports, BMS data entry, productive reports) per internal policies.
* Assist with breakdown/defect repairs and support Maintenance Engineers to minimise plant downtime.
* Conduct shift inspections, complete safety observations, and report findings; update reporting systems as required.
* Review handover from the previous shift and ensure a resource distribution plan and KPI reporting are in place.
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working areas during each shift.
Education
Required: High school or equivalent.
Experience
* Required Years of Experience: 0 - 1 year
* Preferred Experience: Basic knowledge
Certifications/Licences
Preferred: COSHH, IOSH, Forklift, Confined Space, Environmental Permitting & Awareness, Emissions Monitoring, Accident & Investigation, Permit To Work, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment, Asbestos Awareness, Legionella Awareness, Fire Awareness, Working At Height, Hand Arm Vibration, Electrical Safety, Fire Marshal, MEWP, Tower Scaffold, Slinging & Lifting.
Skills
The ability to work without direct supervision while maintaining high safety and compliance standards; ability to lift and move full and empty sharps containers; good communication and teamwork with the biosystem plant team and drivers; strong attention to detail; manual handling; potential use of handheld vibrating equipment and hazardous substances; handling of clinical waste; forklift and tail lift use if trained.
