About The Role
The Medical Department at Forest Green Rovers is a joint operation with the First Team and academy squads, operating in close collaboration. You may be asked on occasions to work across departments at short notice for the benefit of the club.
The role will involve the following:
1. To contribute to the success and achievement of the football club.
2. To aim for excellence within the medical department and provide optimal service to all first-team players.
3. To provide first-class manual and exercise therapy-based treatment to first-team players.
4. To assist in the delivery of departmental aims and objectives, creating a department viewed as the best in the division in injury prevention and management.
5. To attend all first-team games and tours as required.
The role will be based at The New Lawn Stadium, Forest Green, and you will be expected to travel as necessary to fulfill your job requirements.
Hours of work
* A minimum of 40 hours per week.
* Flexibility is essential – ability to work irregular and unsocial hours as required, with work subject to change with less than 24 hours' notice on occasions.
* Work will often be outside 'normal' hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* Attendance may be required at appointments, events, dinners, and tournaments.
* All holiday should be taken during breaks in the football season.
Management of Other Staff
* Support the work of the first team interns and assist the Head Academy Physiotherapist.
* Assist the first team physiotherapist in the professional development of all Academy medical staff.
* Contribute to mid-season and end-of-season review meetings to review progression and provide feedback.
Management of Injuries
* Deliver first-class treatment to all first team players, aiming for efficient return from injury.
* Provide input into treatment and management plans for injured players and work professionally to deliver these plans.
* Work alongside the medical team to ensure best practices.
* Implement evidence-based practice and support the physiotherapist during rehabilitation.
* Contribute to injury management plans, demonstrating injury evolution and recovery milestones.
* Provide daily treatment plans aligned with injury management and functional markers.
* Contribute to training programs and ensure clear communication within the MDT.
* Complete medical notes within 24 hours of treatment.
Injury Prevention
* Liaise daily with strength and conditioning staff for player availability and readiness decisions.
* Work with the conditioning team on injury prevention routines.
* Contribute to individualized injury prevention programs based on screening and injury history.
Medical Provision at Matches/Tours
* Travel with the team to provide therapy treatments before and during matches.
* Attend all matches and be present for pre-match preparations.
* Rehabilitate and treat players at the stadium as needed.
* Be available on short notice after matches for assessment and treatment.
Medical Consultations
* Attend medical consultations with players as required to ensure optimal care.
Continual Professional Development
* Work towards SMART targets for personal and departmental development.
* Maintain a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
* Meet with the physiotherapist every 6 weeks to review SMART targets.
* Undertake required training, including league rules (ATMMiF), funded by the club.
* Attend courses and conferences, keeping an up-to-date portfolio of achievements.
About You
Qualifications
* Relevant degree in Physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, or sports therapy.
* Registered with CSP, Society of Sports Therapy, BASRAT, or equivalent.
* Full driving license and access to a car.
* Desirable: advanced pitch-side first aid qualification (ATMMiF equivalent).
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years in an elite sporting environment.
* Experience developing and evaluating rehabilitation programs for elite football players.
* Experience delivering soft tissue/manual therapies in elite sport.
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience implementing innovative ideas.
* Experience assessing, diagnosing, and rehabilitating MSK conditions in elite athletes.
* Experience modifying rehab programs for individual needs.
* Experience using injury prevention strategies in professional sport.
