Transport Contract Manager
Temporary role of up to 12 months within the Accessible Transport Services Team based at Station Road, Rufford, L40 1TB (Chorley & West Lancashire). The position supports Home to School (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) and Adult Day Care transport services.
Responsibilities
* Plan and resource journeys using the council fleet and approved private hire or taxi suppliers.
* Manage and monitor a portfolio of transport contracts, reviewing performance, cost‑effectiveness and compliance.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, daytime support centres and internal departments.
* Lead a team of Passenger Assistants – recruitment, induction, work allocation, performance appraisals, training and training plans.
* Administer absenteeism, low‑level disciplinary matters and payroll records.
* Provide high‑quality customer service and communicate effectively across all levels.
Qualifications
* Experience in staff and contract management in a transport or similar service.
* Strong organisational, communication and people skills, with empathy for those with SEND.
* Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and willingness to learn new specialist software.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining professionalism under pressure.
