This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly talented Lloyd’s Register Advisory Team as the manager of the 'Naval Architecture - Ship Design' team. In this role you will manage a team of naval architects supporting our clients by delivering a range of services including design and modification studies, drawing production, risk studies, independent yard and vendor assessments, independent owner support, failure investigations, life extension studies, and operational assessments. You will also support our sales teams with developing client value propositions, project proposals and undertaking activities to raise LR Advisory’s global profile in Naval Architecture advisory.
You will be based in Southampton or London with a team currently based in Southampton and Singapore. There will be a requirement to undertake travel on occasion for client-related work and for business development.
The successful candidate for this role will have a passion for naval architecture and ship design, strong commercial acumen, and excellent communication skills. They will have an inquisitive mind with a willingness to engage with the multidisciplinary teams across LR and our clients to develop innovative solutions that address client challenges.

The role:
* Line management responsibility for the naval architecture advisory group including governance, performance monitoring, and quality assurance.
* Assume a naval architecture technical authority role for LR Advisory services and provide specialist support / advice to external and internal clients.
* Enabling naval architecture and ship design capability growth within the group and across the global regional hubs by mentoring / coaching other employees to achieve effective knowledge transfer and determining the need for training and talent development.
* Monitoring developments in the industry and amongst competitors, and developing new services and products that are aligned with market demands and the wider advisory group strategy.
* Preparing proposals to address client challenges where the parameters may not be well defined and require solutions where previous experience does not provide any precedent.
* Conducting activities in line with accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards as required.
* Undertaking project work, project management and administrative tasks according to established procedures and taking responsibility for monitoring group project progress, spend against budget, contract requirements and project closure with emphasis on quality and timing.
* Achieving targets for chargeable time of the line group, in line with team management expectations.
* Building a network of contacts to gain knowledge and promote the business.
* Establishing, developing, and maintaining long-term client relationships, using feedback to continually develop our services, processes / procedures, and deliverables.
* Pro-actively share knowledge with the team and the wider organisation for technical and promotional purposes.
* Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
What you bring:
* As a minimum, a degree in Naval Architecture from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register.
* Membership and chartered status from an appropriate professional institution.
* In-depth working experience and technical knowledge of ship structures and construction methods, ship stability, ship operations, ship machinery and equipment, ship design documentation, Classification rules, and regulatory and Flag state requirements.
* Knowledge of ship electrotechnical systems and/or experience working in a shipyard would be an advantage.
* Demonstrable ability to run and manage complex and multifaceted projects with multiple stakeholders.
* Experience in managing a team, good communication / influencing skills as well as strong team-working and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work, with the ability to produce comprehensive and detailed technical written reports.
* Working knowledge of the digital tools NAPA, MAXsurf, Rhino, AutoCAD (or equivalents).

* Can demonstrate strategic thinking with respect to new and emerging technologies and trends in the industry.
