Two exciting opportunities are available for Electricity Distribution Network Technicians to join our Major Projects team – one based at our Church Village Depot in Pontypridd, and the other at our Swansea depot. This is a key operational role supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of the East Wales or West Wales electricity network, up to and including 132kV. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a high-performing team within a dynamic industry that is continually growing and evolving. Covering a large area across the South Wales region, the position provides a varied working environment with changing locations. The role includes comprehensive technical training, enabling you to further develop and enhance your skill set. You will also engage with a wide range of stakeholders, building strong working relationships along the way. You are required to have grade AC/4-9 GCSE in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in both subjects. * Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete. Main Responsibilities Reporting to the Major Projects Operations Manager, you will: Issue appropriate safety documentation and ensure all activities comply with relevant safety standards. Take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of colleagues, contractors, and members of the public. Manage allocated jobs in accordance with company policies, procedures, and operational requirements. Follow work instructions to deliver projects efficiently, on time, and within budget. Liaise with a range of stakeholders to support safe, effective, and successful project outcomes. Mentor and support trainees and apprentices, helping to develop their skills and technical knowledge. Carry out additional tasks appropriate to the Technician role as required. The Ideal Candidate You will be a self‑motivated individual who is comfortable working on your own initiative as well as part of a small, collaborative team. You will be confident making on‑the‑spot decisions, able to communicate clearly, and capable of working under pressure to tight deadlines. You will have: Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 (essential) Level 3 City & Guilds qualification, or a willingness to undertake this if not already attained Excellent practical hand skills and confidence carrying out hands‑on technical tasks. Computer literacy, with the ability to use digital tools and systems effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders. A flexible and proactive approach, adapting well to changing priorities. A full, valid UK/EU driving licence and mobility across the East Wales / West Wales area. Willingness to train as a Senior Authorised Person and Switch Person. Flexibility to undertake standby duties as operational needs require. Residency within approximately 60 minutes of the Church Village / Swansea depot. Some National Grid roles involve working at height or the use of fall arrest equipment. For safety reasons, an upper weight limit of 135kg applies due to equipment safe working loads. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
