Member Technology Delivery (MTD) brings together the change and technology portfolio that enables our front-line colleagues to provide class leading service to new and existing members alike, supporting them with their everyday banking transactions and in their moments of need through our chat, voice and physical engagement channels.
MTD is made up of 4 CIO portfolios, namely Retail Products, Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing, Customer Servicing and Payments.
The Programme Manager will join the Mortgages & Financial Wellbeing COO team where we support the Mortgages Business in their ambition to provide the best mortgages service in the UK.
Mortgages across Nationwide are a team of 2500+ colleagues who play a central role in helping our customers achieve one of life's biggest milestones: home ownership. Nationwide specialises in both residential and buy-to-let mortgages, guiding our customers from the initial application stage all the way through to mortgage offer and beyond.
We're looking for customer focussed leaders who can support our teams to drive for efficiency, delivery value to members and work well with a wide community of leaders across the Society to achieve our multi-year strategy.
As a Programme Manager in the Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing COO team you'll be responsible for a team of mixed-discipline delivery professionals responsible for the successful delivery of large enterprise initiatives and strategically aligned OKR's, spanning across multiple business areas, with maximum return on investment, to time, budget and scope. The portfolio of change you will be responsible within Mortgages - Home Value Stream is c.£15 million per annum, comprising a team of c.175 (engineers, testers, BAs and PMs) with direct line management responsibility for c.10 Project Managers. You will manage the discovery, development, execution and delivery of change, security, data & technology solutions in order to deliver business case value, defining the most appropriate method for delivering change through estimation, planning and delivery.
As a senior member of the team you'll be a role model for the values that we want to recognise and nurture in our teams to develop innovative and learning culture, increase efficiency and actively reduce cost of change for the Society through championing insight based and data driven design, along with iterative ways of working. Leading by example and setting a high bar through performance management whilst creating the space to pursue a goal of enhancing the live service of the products and services within the business area and the relating 1st line risks.

What you'll be doing
As a Programme Manager within the Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing – Home Value Stream Team you will:
* Manage multi-disciplinary teams in the analysis, planning and execution of delivery work that maximise return on investment and pace of delivery to underpin the desired outcomes, against scope, value, budget, and time
* Structure and set up programmes of work / values streams ensuring adherence to the appropriate governance, risk, guardrails and utilising the appropriate delivery methodologies and align to the change and risk framework
* Collaborate and manage stakeholders to ensure alignment of work and expectations, tensions in priorities and risk and dependencies are managed to deliver the right outcomes for members and colleagues
* Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships in a hybrid on-shore/off-shore model and manage any associated confidentiality or legal sensitivities
* Estimate and gain approval for budgets, managing these within allocations
* Operate with a Society wide mindset to create and inspire a culture of innovation and creativity through cross functional coaching and development. Focus on driving team dynamics to build a network of transparent, digitally aligned, scalable and adaptable teams that drive proposition outcomes to achieve competitive advantage through zero based design and agility.
* Provide hands on support delivering outcomes.
About you
To be successful as a Programme Manager in Home Team, you'll have the following skills / experience:
* Experience of managing large teams, typically 50+ FTE
* Specialised knowledge gained through extensive experience in change management and transformation of large complex change initiatives
* Outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to nurture and manage a high performing team leveraging individual styles and preferences
* Knowledge of the UK mortgage market and experience of delivering change within a mortgages technology team
* Ability to assimilate a broad and detailed knowledge of society strategy to create a complex delivery plan
* Experience of setting compelling vision and communicating that to stakeholders at all levels
* Robust understanding of different change delivery methodologies
* Strong influencing skills to manage challenges and maintain relationships at an executive level
* A successful track record of converting an organisational strategy into delivery plans is essential
