The Key Elements of the role in the Day Therapy / Outpatient setting: 1. To provide specialised knowledge and skill in the care of the terminally ill patient and their family. 2. To provide professional, high quality and efficient patient orientated care.
1. To provide a consistently high standard of patient care. 4. To teach and support other members of LOROS staff as necessary.
2. To deputise for the person in charge at Day Therapy / Out Patients as Necessary. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Duties include: 1. Practical nursing care of the patient in accordance with LOROS procedures.
3. Planning and application of principles of symptom control with other team members. 3. Offering psycho-social and spiritual support to the patient and their family.
4. Supporting the relatives and friends during the patients illness 5. Promoting a relaxed and informal atmosphere whilst maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. 6.
Support the medical team as required with clinical procedures. 7. Take responsibility in implementing care in the outpatient setting in the absence of the Day Therapy & Out-Patients Manager. 8.
Carrying out holistic needs assessments as necessary for day care. 9. Liaise with the wider inter-disciplinary team about a patients care, as necessary. EDUCATIONAL AND PERSONNEL DUTIES INCLUDE: 1.
Assisting senior staff with the induction and support of newly appointed trained staff 2. Supervision and assistance in the teaching of other student nurses and medical students, nursing staff and volunteers in the unit. 3. Generating and maintaining a friendly and supportive team spirit with all LOROS staff.
1. Attending all relevant training, conferences and study days at the discretion of Day Therapy & Out-Patients Manager. 5. Participating in audit, evidence and clinical governance programme.
2. Participate in daily nursing meeting. 7. Lead and participate in MDT meetings.
3. Lead and participate in implementing care in the outpatient setting. 9. Assist with transport of patients as necessary to and from LOROS.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES INCLUDE: 1. Being aware of the Health and Safety at Work Act, ensuring that related procedures are carried out correctly and recording all accidents to patients, staff and visitors. 2. Supervising and participating in the custody, recording, maintenance and administration of controlled and other drug stocks in accordance with LOROS policy.
1. Assisting in maintaining stock levels of surgical stores and other equipment. 4. Following LOROS procedure for maintenance of repairs and equipment.
2. Participating in the keeping of accurate nursing records, according to LOROS policy. 6. Being aware of any complaints, taking immediate action by reporting to Day Therapy & Out-Patients Manager/Head of Day Care and Community Services in accordance with LOROS policy.
3. Contributing to the re-evaluation of nursing procedures. 8. Maintaining confidentiality of patients and relatives.
4. Supervising and co-ordinating the work of the nursing staff in Day Therapy in the absence of a Manager/Senior Registered Nurse in accordance with LOROS policy. 10. Supervision of meals given to patients by catering staff and volunteers ensuring that all patients have the diet they require.
Support the collection of activity data in relation to outpatient services.
