Job Details: Criminal Justice Recovery Navigator

Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.

We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.

Bringing together two big organisations is not a small task and it’ll take a while to fully integrate our systems, processes and approaches. That’s why you will notice the jobs here are still branded ‘Humankind’. Next year we’ll be fully integrating our recruitment systems but for now they are separate.

About the role...
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Criminal Justice Recovery Navigator to join our team, working with individuals within the criminal justice system to increase the level of engagement with treatment and recovery by delivering high-quality, evidence-based interventions.

In this role, you will engage with service users across Nortumberland, facilitating harm reduction initiatives, promoting visible recovery, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes. You will take a special interest in those that are more difficult to engage and quite often end up stuck in the criminal justice system, in and out of different criminal justice agencies. Your work will focus on reducing drug and alcohol-related harm, building recovery capital, and ensuring continuity of care through scheduled appointments and partnership working.

This position is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals while contributing to a safer and healthier community

Main duties will include:

* Engage service users into treatment, specifically targeting those hard-to-reach people who find themselves stuck in the revolving door of criminal justice agencies
* Deliver group and recovery-based sessions.
* Provide harm minimisation to people using substances to reduce risk
* Support service users in managing day-to-day challenges that arise upon their release from custody or prison
* Work alongside probation with those on DRR/ ATR Orders
* Signpost individuals to appropriate local services and empower them to build strong community networks and recovery capital
* Promote visible and inspiring recovery to service users, encouraging a contagious sense of hope and progress
* Collaborate with service users, partner agencies, and stakeholders to address barriers preventing access to comprehensive services, including those focused on substance misuse, mental health, and overall well-being
* Empower service users to strengthen their recovery capital and community connections to sustain long-term progress
* To ensure all contact with service users is communicated effectively with all those involved with their care, including criminal justice agencies, to ensure a well rounded approach to recovery planning, risk assessing, promoting engagement and longer-term planning for a more positive future
About you...

Essential criteria:
* You will have thorough knowledge of substances and their effects.
* An understanding and awareness of the effects of substance use on an individual and the community, including family and peers.
* The ability to engage service users in a variety of ways such as group work, recovery sessions 121s, mutual aid and supporting their recovery in their communities.
Desirable criteria:
* Lived experience.
* Basic knowledge of criminal justice system and agencies.
* Driving Licence
