What is the role?
Thinking about life after school or perhaps a change in career? Maybe you enjoy fixing things or prefer being outdoors and doing hands-on practical work? This Apprenticeship Programme offers you the chance to earn whilst you learn new skills. You will be provided with the opportunity to achieve a formal City & Guilds Electrical Power Engineering qualification, whilst gaining valuable work experience.
This is a three-year programme combining academic study (20%) with work-based experience (80%). You will repair equipment of the electricity network, replace equipment as part of a maintenance programme, replace broken or worn parts, carry out adjustments, servicing and checks on components.
You will be supported throughout the programme by mentors, Learning and Talent support staff and business operational colleagues. On-the-job training will be complemented by our academic training partners. Apprentices attend college on block release and may be away from home for short periods; you will be supported fully during this time.
By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have formal qualifications and accreditations that open the door to a rewarding career in the energy sector. We emphasise sustainability and invest in our people to help them progress within SSE as far as you want to go.
What do I need? Qualifications
We’re looking for talent with the right potential, not just qualifications. You don’t need any prior experience to apply; you just need to:
* Have an interest in the work SSE does
* Appreciate our core values, particularly safety and a drive to succeed
* Enjoy working as part of a team
* Be interested in engineering and how things work
* Enjoy outdoor work and hands-on tasks
