Licensing Analyst, Licensing Permanent, Full Time (Hybrid working role - minimum two office-based days a week in London) About the team PPL’s Licensing team licenses the use of recorded music on radio and television in the UK, including some online uses such as internet radio stations and video on-demand services. PPL’s licensees include the likes of the BBC, ITV, and Sky, as well as radio stations owned by Global and Bauer. PPL distributes the income received from these licences to its members who include record companies and artists. This department develops PPL’s tariffs and licence agreements to ensure that they are fit for purpose in a world where the use of music is constantly changing, whilst also striking a balance between a fair return for our members and a fair fee for licensees. What you’ll be doing: The Licensing Analyst will primarily support our work in licensing television services. Reporting into the Licensing Manager, you will provide research and analysis to support our negotiations and the development of licensing policies and strategies, which will involve presenting findings to senior colleagues. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of customer accounts and for identifying new licensing opportunities, which will require regular communication with licensees and their representatives. Working in conjunction with other departments at PPL, you will also ensure that licences are correctly administered and that the flow of information between departments is relevant and timely. You do not need to have worked in the music industry or a licensing role before, but you will need to be able to demonstrate strong numerical and verbal reasoning skills, the ability to critically analyse information and build strong working relationships. Key responsibilities will include: Providing research, insight, and analysis to support licensing proposals and strategies, making sure that any analysis is well rounded, logical, and clearly presented. Pro-actively looking for ways to improve the team’s analytical abilities, providing mentorship to others, and using knowledge and data from across the business to support negotiations. Negotiating, implementing, and managing licences for certain customer accounts, under guidance from the Licensing Manager and Head of Television. Identifying, monitoring, and contacting unlicensed television and/or online services that may require a PPL licence to close licensing gaps and increase revenue. Managing and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues across different departments at PPL Making sure the team’s administrative processes run smoothly by updating spreadsheets/databases and ensuring that the flow of information between internal departments is relevant and timely. Building collaborative working relationships with licensees, their representatives and other relevant industry organisations. Making sure licensees’ understand and adhere with licence terms (like payment and reporting requirements) by coordinating with other PPL departments, taking corrective action where necessary. Supporting the Licensing Manager with the day-to-day management of the team’s relationship with PPL’s Finance department, making sure that the invoicing, forecasting, and budgeting processes work effectively. Supporting inter-departmental initiatives, like the implementation of new systems or technologies, making sure the Licensing teams’ requirements are captured.
