This exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of authorising veterinary medicines in the UK. Your work will play a major role in assuring the safety and efficacy of animal medicines and will significantly contribute to the VMD meeting its published standards.
You will be a senior veterinary assessor within the Efficacy Team, one of our specialist teams within the Pharmaceuticals Section, which in turn, is part of the VMD�s Authorisations Division.
You will be responsible for the assessment of efficacy and target species safety data for applications for:
� � �new marketing authorisations for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
� � �variations to existing marketing authorisations�
� � �veterinary aspects of animal test certificates to conduct clinical field trials
Job description
Responsibilities and your main duties:
1. Lead and coordinate the efficacy team's contribution to at least one work area relevant to the regulation of veterinary medicinal products
2. deputise for the Head of the Efficacy Team
3. develop medicines availability and prioritisation work
4. establish enhanced external regulatory and scientific networks through expert resourcing
5. build capability within the Efficacy Team through provision of relevant training
6. contribute to the VMD�s Regulatory Science Strategy
7. scientifically assess efficacy and target species safety data for marketing authorisations, animal test certificates and variations for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
8. undertake a detailed evaluation of the data and, in liaison with other assessors, formulate a recommendation to accept or refuse the application, based on the benefits and risks you identify during the assessment
9. prepare and peer review written assessment reports
10. present assessment reports to UK and international scientific committees
11. advise applicants on technical aspects of potential applications
12. deal with enquiries and represent the Efficacy Team at meetings with internal and external stakeholders
13. maintain awareness of current developments, legislation and guidance affecting pharmaceutical veterinary medicines within National and International context
14. contribute to development and revision of industry guidelines
15. contribute to the delivery of the VMD International Strategy (which may involve foreign travel)
16. advise Defra and outside organisations, including logistics to ensure the continued availability of pharmaceutical veterinary medicines
17. develop junior assessors in the team
18. collaborate with members of the Authorisations Division to achieve the Division�s overall objectives and
19. contribute to wider VMD initiatives, such as training and development, publicity programmes, R&D programme.
20. You may also manage and develop allocated veterinary assessors.
21. Comply with ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 27001 (information security) standards, and GDPR and record management requirements.
22. Act corporately � meeting, role-modelling, embedding, and championing the corporate objectives set by the VMD.
Person specification
You must have both the formal qualification and the experience set out below.
Experience
You must have a good understanding of current animal health and topical veterinary issues and you must have experience � or an awareness � of clinical veterinary work.
You must have experience � or be able to demonstrate a viable approach to � successfully managing a team of professionals.
You must also have relevant experience of pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products, gained within the pharmaceutical industry and/or within a Regulatory Authority, specifically you will have experience of:
23. regulatory authorisation systems for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal veterinary products
24. preparing scientific reports relating to the evaluation of benefit/risk of these products
25. applying your analytical and problem�solving skills quickly to assimilate scientific and other information, identifying issues, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations
26. communicating complex veterinary issues, in writing and face-to-face, with clarity and conviction in the face of tough negotiation or challenge
27. prioritising continuous self-learning and development � identifying those areas that you need to develop to achieve your future objectives
28. provision of scientific training
29. IT skills - You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook, can navigate the internet and can learn the use of the VMD�s IT systems.��
Qualifications
You must hold a degree in veterinary medicine.
Memberships
You must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or be eligible to become a member.
