Electrical Engineering Manager
Location: East Midlands Office – Site-based with travel to multiple operational sites

About the Role
As Electrical Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership, assurance, and governance across a wide range of electrical activities. You will act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) and NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS), ensuring compliance with regulations, safety rules, and engineering best practice. The role involves overseeing electrical design, installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning activities across wastewater treatment works and pumping stations.
This position offers a blend of office-based responsibilities and regular site visits, with opportunities to support major projects from design through to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Electrical Assurance
* Ensure electrical installations meet internal standards, safety rules, and statutory regulations (including BS 7671).
* Conduct site inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
* Identify, report, and resolve non-conformances and improvement actions.
Senior Authorised Person (SAP)
Act as SAP for LV systems in line with company electrical safety rules.
Prepare, issue, and manage permits to work.
Conduct or supervise isolations, switching, and energisation.
Maintain authorisation registers and safety documentation.
Provide electrical safety leadership to operational teams.
Risk & Safety Management
Produce and review RAMS.
Implement safe systems of work, including isolation and lock-out/tag-out.
Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation and internal HSQE policies.
NICEIC Qualified Supervisor Duties
Act as the organisation’s NICEIC QS.
Verify compliance with BS 7671 across all works.
Review and sign off certification, including EICs, Minor Works, and inspection/testing reports.
Lead audit preparation and liaise with NICEIC assessors.
Electrical Design & Engineering
Review electrical designs, drawings, and specifications.
Carry out and check design calculations (cable sizing, voltage drop, protection, fault levels).
Produce and update schematics and single-line diagrams.
Support value engineering, technical change control, and cross-discipline coordination.
Commissioning & Operational Support
Plan and oversee commissioning of electrical installations.
Support testing, pre-commissioning, and energisation.
Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting and optimisation.
Work with Project Managers and field teams across project lifecycles.
Documentation & Governance
Manage electrical documentation, drawing registers, and revision control.
Maintain accurate as-built and commissioning records.
Prepare documentation packs for audits and regulatory reviews.
Stakeholder Engagement
Provide expert technical support to project and operational teams.
Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulators.
Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Experience Required
* 5+ years’ experience in the water industry or similar process-driven engineering environment.
* Proven experience working at SAP level on LV systems.
* Strong background in electrical design, inspection, testing, and commissioning.
Essential Qualifications
* Recognised Senior Authorised Person (SAP) competence (LV).
* NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical (2356-31) and AM2.
* NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS) status or eligibility.
* 18th Edition (BS 7671).
* City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) Inspection & Testing.
* Demonstrable capability in electrical design calculations.
* ECS/CSCS card or equivalent.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications
* HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
* Professional membership (e.g., IET), working toward IEng/CEng.
* LV/HV switching authorisation.
* IOSH/NEBOSH H&S training.
* HV, power distribution, ATEX/DSEAR awareness, or functional safety knowledge.
* Experience with ISO management systems.
* CAD/design software experience (AutoCAD, EPLAN).
* SMSTS/SSSTS or similar site management training.
Additional Information
Regular travel to operational sites is required.
Out-of-hours work may be needed for emergencies, shutdowns, and commissioning.
Ongoing professional development is supported, including SAP and QS competencies.
