We are seeking an outstanding researcher as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Biotechnology to strengthen our MSc Biotechnology degree team and contribute to undergraduate programmes.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an established researcher with an internationally competitive research programme to develop new synergies within the vibrant Department of Life Sciences and its interdisciplinary research centres. Current research strengths include: medical, microbial, and plant biotechnology, evolution of drug resistance, and development of novel drugs for health and agriculture.
The successful candidate will have an active research programme and a proven track record of innovation and high-impact publications in biotechnology, including but not limited to: health and sustainable biotechnologies, synthetic biology, and biomaterials.
Responsibilities include conducting externally funded research, contributing to teaching at undergraduate and master's levels, supervising postgraduate research students, and taking on additional roles such as acting as an Academic Advisor.
About the Department
The Department of Life Sciences is located on the main campus, close to Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics departments. It fosters a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative culture through research centres for Bioengineering, Biomedical Technologies, Drug Discovery, Mathematical Biology, and the Milner Centre for Evolution.
The University offers advanced High-Performance Computing facilities, including Nimbus (cloud-based supercomputer), Anatra (on-site cluster), and Isambard 3 (regional supercomputer). Additional facilities include the University Imaging Facility, a Chemical Characterisation Facility, molecular microbiology labs, bioreactors, culture rooms, greenhouses, and nanopore sequencing equipment.
