Salary and hours
Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 per hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. For all hours worked between midnight and 6am you will receive an additional night premium of £2.35 per hour. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
New colleagues joining Tesco are offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week; there are options to work fewer hours (minimum 12) if preferred.
Availability and scheduling
The availability windows show the periods of time during which we’d like you to be available to work. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times and provide 3 weeks notice of your shifts. We are flexible if your availability is close to but not exactly the advertised times.
Role overview
Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As a Shift Leader you will support store operations on the shop floor and help ensure a smooth-running store. You will oversee the team, help customers, and strive to improve service for customers, colleagues and communities every day.
Responsibilities
* Work in a fast-paced retail environment with variety
* Take ownership of running duty shifts and coordinate the team to maintain a clean, well-stocked store
* Be available to assist customers and ensure they leave with what they came for
* Coach colleagues and provide feedback to the team to improve service
* Guide and support colleagues to maintain a safe store environment
* Understand store performance and assist managers in delivering actions to improve operations
* Lead by example and set a high standard for colleagues

You will be responsible for
* Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience
* Supporting colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks
* Opening and closing the store, managing duty cover with safety in mind
* Being the point of contact for day-to-day queries in the absence of a manager
* Keeping the store clean, tidy, and well-presented
* Supporting managers with seasonal, community and charity events
* Fostering an inclusive, great team atmosphere
* Providing excellent customer service and clear communication
* Keeping the team informed of communications, changes, or updates
* Continuously seeking store improvements and removing obstacles to service
* Following health and safety procedures and ensuring colleagues do the same
* Recognising and celebrating colleagues who provide great service
Requirements
* Demonstrate excellent customer service and relationship-building with colleagues
* Communicate clearly using various methods
* Be comfortable leading in the absence of the Store Manager
* Be adaptable to change and make decisions that benefit customers and colleagues
* Motivate and inspire the team to exceed expectations
* Be curious and proactive in seeking ways to improve service
