Are you an experienced legal professional seeking an opportunity to gain experience within a dynamic and fast-paced legal team with the chance to make a real impact?
We are recruiting a Lead Solicitor within our Commercial Property and Regeneration team on a 12-month fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. If you are looking for excitement, where every day is different, and your role makes a huge impact on a local community...
this is it.
Our Purpose
North East Lincolnshire Council's Legal Services team is a dynamic and integral part of the Council, playing a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the Council Plan and the achievement of organisational objectives.
Legal Services have been fundamental in delivering vital projects within the borough including:
* The redevelopment of Sea Road, Pier Gardens and Market Place, Cleethorpes;
* The development of a new Transport Hub in Grimsby Town Centre;
* Development of a new leisure scheme at the Council owned Freshney Place Shopping Centre; and
* New housing schemes at the former Western School site and Alexandra Dock, Grimsby
Your Role
We are seeking a qualified solicitor with significant experience of Commercial Property and Regeneration matters on a 12-month fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave.
This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play a key role in large-scale regeneration and development schemes in North East Lincolnshire, undertaking varied, high-quality work with like-minded and supportive colleagues who are dedicated to public service and making a difference in local communities.
Your main responsibilities will include:
* Providing expert advice to client departments and senior management on all aspects of major regeneration projects within North East Lincolnshire;
* Attending project team meetings and programme boards to report and advise on all legal aspects of major projects;
* Managing a caseload of complex property and regeneration matters;
* Drafting and negotiating complex legal documents;
* Having an understanding of ancillary legal matters that may arise during major regeneration projects including subsidy control, planning, highways, procurement and local authority governance; and
* Serving as a mentor and sounding board for junior team members to support internal progression of staff.
As a local authority solicitor, you'll often be called upon to advise on a range of other issues, so an adaptable, flexible and solution-focused approach is essential.
Why join NELC's Legal Team?
Our team is a mix of experienced solicitors, senior legal officers, trainee solicitors, and legal officers, all working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for our client departments and the Council. We offer:
* A supportive and friendly working environment
* High flexibility in working arrangements, including hybrid home and office working and flexi-time
* No traditional legal time-recording and billing
* Opportunities to work on high-value and high-profile projects
* Development opportunities, including additional training, shadowing team members, and career progression
About You
You should be a qualified Solicitor, complying with the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Local authority experience is desirable but not essential. If you have the transferable skills, the Council will commit to providing you with the restorative and supportive environment you need to succeed. If you want a challenge, a diverse caseload and to break away from traditional billing-focused private sector work, this is the job for you!
You will have significant experience in providing clear and concise legal advice and managing a complex and high-profile caseload.
You will have a high level of communication and team working skills, be an adaptable and driven individual and be able to manage a fast-paced working environment.
You are a dynamic and skilled individual with commercial experience who can apply their knowledge and skills and is open to a new challenge.
Think you can make a difference? We want to hear from you.
