Deputy Patient Safety Manager

The Deputy Patient Safety Manager will provide support and operational leadership in patient safety and risk across the organisation by working closely with the Trust Patient Safety Manager and Patient Safety Specialists to promote, implement and maintain a safety culture.

The post holder will support the Patient Safety Manager, Patient Safety Specialists and Occupational Safety Manager to enable all parts of the Trust to work within national guidance and regulation relating to safety and risk to achieve legislative compliance and develop and provide a safe environment for staff, patients and the public.


Main duties of the job

The main duties of the Post holder include:

1. Co-ordinate, undertake or advise on, and support learning responses for patient safety incidents and other complex investigations or reviews, where necessary, including working with external reviewers and act as an expert resource for patient safety incident investigations.
2. Ensure the key principle of all patient safety incident investigations remain built on a just safety culture and are system focused.
3. Support the development of systems and processes to effectively manage learning responses crossing multiple directorates and departments.

To deputise for the Patient Safety Manager as required.

Person Specification


Education and Qualifications

* Educated to Master's level in a relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience.
* GCSE Maths and English, grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
* Teaching and assessing qualification
* Clinical Professional Registration


Experience

* Relevant direct involvement of patient safety incident investigations
* Development of written briefings, reports, guidance and policy documents
* Delivery of presentations, training and awareness sessions to a various audiences including senior managers
* Providing advice and guidance on patient safety and clinical governance subjects to all levels of staff.
* Data analysis, interpretation of trends and themes and presentation in reports
* Reporting, investigating and learning from incidents
* Working within a regulatory and legislative framework and liaising with external stakeholders e.g. HSE, CQC, ICB
* Organising and chairing meetings


Skills and Knowldege

* Highly developed verbal, written and problem solving skills with the ability to influence and motivate others including senior managers
* Ability to understand and process complex, sensitive issues and information; make recommendations and identify solutions
* Effectively prioritise tasks, manage conflicting demands on time and resources to achieve objectives
* Advanced keyboard skills, experienced user of word, outlook and excel to intermediate level
* Use of incident and risk management software e.g., Datix
* Understanding and In-depth knowledge of Patient Safety Strategy
* Understanding and In-depth knowledge of the Duty of Candour principles


Personal Qualities

* Ability to develop effective working relationships and demonstrate professional credibility with staff at all levels
* Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative
* Work as part of a team showing understanding of needs of individuals and groups
* Committed to personal development and continued professional development
