We are looking to appoint a position of Locum Microbiology Consultant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire NHS Trust. This will be 6 months with a possibility of extending for up to 1 year.
The post-holder will share in the provision of a first-class clinical microbiology service to the areas covered by the laboratory, along with the other three Consultant Microbiologists: Dr Jean O’Driscoll and Dr Ruby Devi and Dr Karthiga Sithamparanathan.
The Department also has an ST3 Microbiology/Infectious Diseases trainee from the Oxford Thames Valley deanery rotation working Mon-Fri 9-5pm.
Main duties of the job
The post is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the new Consultant Contract (England 2003).
The Trust requires the successful candidate to have and maintain full and specialist registration with a current licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) and to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a doctor as set down by the GMC.
The appointee will be expected to cover for colleagues’ absence from duty on the basis of agreed arrangements in the department and with the employing Trust.
You will be one of 4 consultants working in a rota to provide clinical support to all hospital sites and local GPs. This includes supporting our OPAT team to manage patients in the community, including weekly virtual OPAT rounds -when covering OPAT, attending orthopaedic, Spinal Surgery, Spinal Injuries and Haematology MDT meetings and undertaking daily ICU ward rounds.
Although based at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital site, you may be required to visit other Trust sites, particularly in your role as Lead Infection Control Doctor.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
10. MBBS or equivalent
11. dical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
12. If an applicant is UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
13. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
14. FRCPath / SCE Infectious Diseases or equivalent.
Clinical Technical Skills
Essential criteria
15. Thorough knowledge of specialty and ability to work at Consultant level without direct supervision.
16. Has participated in audit and can lead audit in the department.
Experience

17. Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the relevant specialty
Desirable criteria
18. Evidence of a special interest that complements those of the other consultants in the department.
