We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our friendly maintenance team at our Radlett Block Plant, located close to Radlett in Hertfordshire.
The site is easily accessible from Watford, St Albans, Borehamwood, Bushey, Hemel Hempstead, Hatfield, Edgware, Elstree, Harpenden, Welwyn Garden City, Barnet, and the surrounding areas.
Our Radlett Plant manufactures sustainable, tough and energy‑efficient aerated blocks that we see all around us — whether in our homes or workplaces, you are never too far away from one of our products.
Main Responsibilities
As our Mechanical Maintenance Fitter, you will be responsible for undertaking plant maintenance, repairs and improvements to ensure maximum reliability of all plant equipment, and to assist team members in all aspects of plant operation.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Responding to plant breakdowns and ensuring efficient repair of equipment, minimising downtime while following the maintenance plan and all Safety, Health and Environmental standards
2. Continuously improving plant performance while maintaining safety, maintenance and asset reliability
3. Contributing to the in‑house development of the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
4. Supporting maintenance and operations through accurate documentation, policies, procedures and guidelines
5. Contributing to and delivering the weekly maintenance plan
6. Maintaining and updating information in CMMS or other maintenance systems
7. Participating in planning major equipment overhauls
8. Participating in shutdown coordination across departments
This is a shift-based role, with overtime available to meet site needs.
The Ideal Candidate
This is a varied and rewarding position requiring:
9. Level 3 Apprenticeship, ONC/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (beneficial). QBE (Qualified by Experience) considered essential
10. Practical knowledge of maintenance practices including hydraulics and pneumatics
11. Fabrication and welding experience
12. Experience with TPM methodology and Continuous Improvement
13. Working knowledge of engineering maintenance principles, ideally within heavy engineering
14. Understanding of Predictive Maintenance
15. Experience using a CMMS
16. Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis tools
17. Understanding of mechanical systems, codes and symbols used on drawings
18. Ability to learn and apply Health & Safety rules
