We have an exciting opportunity to join a busy Department in a key role which underpins activities in our research laboratories based in the hospital. The successful candidate will have an important role as a Laboratory and Facilities Coordinator with a team of people to support the oversight and management of physical infrastructure, facilities and high-quality support services on behalf of the Department. You will undertake the day-to-day management of the facilities team. The successful candidate will have substantial relevant experience of working within a laboratory environment, knowledge of Health and Safety best practice, and will be able to demonstrate knowledge of building services along with proactive problem-solving skills.
Compliance with operational safety of equipment and keeping people informed of facilities matters. You will have responsibilities through your team regarding stocks of compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, dry ice, oversee running of the liquid nitrogen cell Bank, oversee glass washing and waste stream disposal (clinical, WEEE, chemical etc). You will take a lead on project manage refurbishments, new works and repairs with the hospital trust and ensure servicing and validation of equipment by external engineers is performed in a timely manner, in conjunction with health and safety compliance regulations.
You will be a skilled communicator with good IT skills (Microsoft package ¿ including sharepoint) and demonstrate tact, diplomacy and confidentiality at all times. This is a very varied role where no two days are the same, so we are looking for someone who can be adaptable and remain calm in situations where priorities can change at short notice.
The role involves some manual handling and so a good level of physical fitness is essential.
