The Role
As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, helping them to develop emotional resilience, positive behaviour, and confidence within the school environment.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group pastoral support
2. Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, emotional regulation, and social development
3. Assisting with the implementation of behaviour support plans and intervention strategies
4. Supporting pupils during lessons and unstructured times such as break and lunch
5. De-escalating situations using restorative and positive behaviour approaches
6. Promoting attendance, wellbeing, and engagement in learning
7. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families
8. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, safeguarding leads, and external professionals
9. Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to pastoral meetings and reviews
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who:
10. Has experience working with primary-aged children with behavioural or SEMH needs
11. Is calm, nurturing, and resilient
12. Has a strong understanding of positive behaviour and trauma-informed approaches
13. Can build supportive, professional relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
14. Is proactive, reflective, and able to work effectively as part of a team
Experience within education, alternative provision, youth services, or care settings is highly desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
