Occupational Therapist Children and Young People

Are you an enthusiastic, child‑centred Occupational Therapist looking to make a meaningful and lasting impact? We are seeking a committed, HCPC‑registered Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary Health and Therapy team, delivering specialist services to children and young people across school and residential settings.

This is an exciting opportunity to manage a diverse caseload of young people with neurological difficulties, coordination challenges, sensory processing differences, and attention and behavioural needs. You will provide high‑quality, evidence‑based assessment and intervention through a mix of 1:1 and group therapy, working in therapy spaces, classrooms and residential homes to achieve the best outcomes for each individual.

The Role

You will carry out specialist occupational therapy assessments using advanced clinical reasoning, evaluating areas such as self‑care, development, sensory processing and fine and gross motor skills. You will analyse complex findings, develop measurable therapy goals, and contribute to multidisciplinary care plans that promote independence, learning and quality of life.

Working in partnership with children, families, education and care teams, you will ensure therapy programmes are embedded into daily routines to create meaningful and sustainable progress. You will also contribute to service development, training delivery, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.

As Part Of Your Role, You Will

* Manage and prioritise a varied caseload
* Deliver evidence‑based individual and group interventions
* Provide clear advice, education and training to parents, carers and professionals
* Lead and participate in multidisciplinary meetings and transition planning
* Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and reflective support to therapy assistants and students
* Contribute to workforce development and promote a positive culture of continuous learning

Professional Standards and Compliance

You will maintain professional and legal accountability in line with HCPC standards and the RCOT Code of Ethics, ensuring accurate record keeping, safeguarding compliance, risk management and adherence to health and safety and data protection legislation.

We are looking for someone who is open, honest, flexible and committed to a person‑centred approach. You must believe in empowering young people to live in the place they call home, with the people and things they love, and to participate fully in their communities.

If you are ready to take the next step in your career and help shape a responsive, high‑quality occupational therapy service that truly makes a difference, we would love to hear from you.

Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorship as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding.

About You

Whether you are an experienced Occupational Therapist seeking a new opportunity or looking to broaden your clinical experience, we welcome individuals who are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people.

Essential

* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Valid HCPC registration
* Strong knowledge of child development and occupational therapy practice
* Ability to manage competing demands effectively
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively
* Current UK driving licence

Desirable

* Experience in SEN schools or residential children’s homes
* Experience working with complex developmental, neurological or sensory needs
* Experience delivering training and mentoring colleagues
* Sensory integration qualification or willingness to work towards this

Who We Are

At MacIntyre Childrens Homes and School, we provide modern, supportive homes and an innovative learning environment for children and young people. Across six homes, each accommodating up to five young people in their own personalised bedrooms, our experienced staff and home managers ensure every child feels safe, valued and empowered.

Learning and development happen throughout the day – at home, at school, and in the community – through life skills, creative arts, physical activity and community access. We focus on developing communication, functional skills, independence and confidence, supporting children to participate fully in everyday life.

Following our recent Ofsted inspection, our homes and school were rated Good. Inspectors praised how staff value children’s voices, use individualised communication aids and work with therapists to help children express themselves and make choices about activities, room décor and meals. They also highlighted the team’s proactive approach to supporting emotional wellbeing, using calming strategies, reducing restrictions and understanding the reasons behind distress.

We celebrate each child’s achievements and unique strengths, and our teams collaborate to meet new challenges, creating homes and learning spaces that are aspirational, safe and supportive. You will receive specialist training, including in behaviour management and personal care, and be supported to make a real difference every day.
