The Rolex SailGP Championship is the most exciting racing on water, where anything can happen in short, adrenaline-fueled battles between national teams at iconic stadium destinations worldwide. Top athletes fly in identical high-tech F50 catamarans faster than the wind, at speeds approaching 60mph.
Founded in 2018, SailGP is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports and entertainment properties, now in its fifth season. SailGP operates with core values to deliver quality, break boundaries, make an impact, stand together and strike a balance. SailGP Technologies serves as the high performance design, engineering and manufacturing arm, focusing on composites engineering, software and data, with a history of cutting-edge sail racing. SailGP relocated to Southampton, UK in Spring 2024 to a state of the art facility.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide engineering and production support across the full lifecycle of composite components, from concept through to manufacture and maintenance.
* Composite structural analysis including hand calculations and FEA of new and existing components.
* Develop and define composite laminate specifications, ply schedules, and resin systems for high-performance marine applications.
* Assist with laminate stacks and layup strategies, optimising for weight, strength and manufacturability.
* Create and update production drawings and manufacturing documentation, ensuring traceability and adherence to engineering requirements.
* Utilise 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino) to model composite structures, moulds, tooling and jigs.
* Collaborate with design, systems and production teams to optimise structural designs for composite manufacturing techniques (prepreg, infusion, wet layup).
* Support and contribute to the construction drawing directory.
* Work independently to meet project-specific objectives, timelines, quality standards and technical specifications.
* Participate in the design development of the SailGP F50 fleet, contributing to continuous improvement in performance, structural reliability and build consistency.
* Offer shop floor support, advising technicians on laminate placement, cure cycles, trimming tolerances and structural repair methods.
* Apply engineering judgement to resolve technical issues and contribute to internal composite standards and quality control processes.
* Take ownership of assigned projects with minimal oversight, while keeping project leads informed of progress and risks.
